A bill of lading is a document utilized in the transportation of goods. The document, sometimes abbreviated as BOL or B/L, is an agreement between the shipper and the carrier and details the goods contained in the shipment, the recipient and delivery destination.

Operating Authority

Operating Authority is a motor carrier’s right to operate a commercial motor vehicle to transport goods or passengers for-hire. Although drivers of Box Trucks and Cargo Vans are not required to have a CDL, all U.S. and Canadian-domiciled “For Hire” motor carriers transporting regulated commodities (property, household goods or passengers) are required to obtain operating authority and maintain proof of insurance with the FMCSA, Office of Registration and Safety Information.
